Study in China and Learn from Classically Trained Doctors

CCAOM has recently solidified an agreement with Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine through which our students have the opportunity to complete one full semester of study within China.

As part of the fifth year of study, students will have the unique experience of observing and assisting clinical specialists in the Chengdu University of TCM First Affiliated Teaching Hospital. Complimentary to the clinical experience, and in order to fulfill licensing requirements, students will be given private small group translated lectures by famous doctors.

Chengdu University of TCM is a leader in modern applications of the TCM Classical texts. Previous lectures provided to students have included: Application of the Shan Han Lun to Insomnia, Utilizing theories of the Nei Jing to treat Diabetes (Xiao Ke) and Eight Trigram (Ba Gua) Pestle Needling.

This opportunity to study in China is open to all current students pursuing the Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine diploma as well as current practitioners that are looking to increase their clinical knowledge and professional title. Transfer students from equivalent institutions are welcome to join.

Tuition cost: $9000.00 includes return airfare*

Open House

Twice a year the Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine opens its doors to the public and all potential students of Chinese medicine. Everyone is invited to take part in complimentary treatments of acupuncture, Gua Sha, cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na therapeutic massage and Jin Shin Do acupressure. While touring the modern facilities here at our college you will be treated to classical chinese musical performances and a demonstration of Taoist Tai Qi.

NADA Auricular Acupuncture

Since 1972 auricular acupuncture has been applied clinically as a safe, effective and low cost approach to addressing drug and alcohol dependency. Commonly used as an adjunct to established addiction treatment programs, the NADA protocol is applied in over a thousand addiction centers throughout the US and Canada. Acudetox involves the insertion of five small needles into specific locations in both ears which stimulates the detoxification of chemical substances from the body and controls withdrawal symptom.

What is NADA? The National Acupuncture Detox Association supports education and training related to the use of a specific auricular acupuncture protocol in addiction treatment to relieve suffering during detoxification and withdrawal. NADA strives to make acupuncture based barrier-free addiction treatment accessible in all communities and to ensure its integration with other treatment modalities.

The CCAOM runs a NADA clinic every Tuesday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm.  This is a drop in clinic with no appointment necessary however we ask that you arrive no later than 7:30. 

 

Hospital Internships in China

The Canadian College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has standing agreements with two different institutions in China for externship possibilities. Hospital internships give our students the opportunity to observe specialized doctors utilizing Chinese medicine for a wide range of various disorders. Students who have participated in this option have all reported a deeper understanding and appreciation for the capacity of Chinese medicine.

Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Hefei, Anhui, China Located at the foot of Shushan Mountain and on the bank of Chaohu lake is the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui College of TCM. The hospital is a major contributor to medical research in China. Anhui College of TCM and the First Affiliated hospital invite exchange students from North America, Japan, South Korea and Africa for exchange programs. They are well equipped with translators and intercultural liaisons to facilitate various internship durations and specializations.

Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chengdu, Sichuan, China Located in the historic city of Chengdu in the mystical Sichuan province, Chengdu University of TCM boasts three campuses and affiliated hospitals. The university lays emphasis on international cooperation and exchange. It was one of the first universities in China to be allowed to enroll foreign students. This tradition continues with more than 400 foreign students in attendance each year. The Center for Sichuan International Academic Exchange and Education of TCM educates their Masters level students in the skill of English translation and interpretation making for an excellent facility for English speakers to study.
